Baby is Getting FUN!
I'm not sure when it happened. Was it at four months? Was it at five? All I know is that that little infant turned baby-with-a-personality somewhere along the way --- like he was sneaking up on me with that one! Earlier days, I was looking to see his first roll from back to belly; now I can't stop his rolling! That even seems to be his main source of transportation, since he hasn't gotten the crawl down yet. Not every baby is the same.
Some find "the army crawl" helpful (maybe more after six months of age), and some never try the army crawl at all. Some babies, like mine, reach and roll. Some get on all fours and rock a little, then plop, and then repeat that until they have rocked forward and plopped themselves over and over again, clear across the room!!! Many combine these tactics --- whatever it takes.
Babies really get to be so much fun at five and six months (and continually so for the whole year ahead!). More giggles as you gently tickle them. More exploration and a plan seems to be in their mind to get closer to whatever object is grabbing their attention. It doesn't mean that they are successful, necessarily in getting there. For example, when my son is anxious to get to me or a toy he wants, he simply throws his hands and arms back, right along with his feet and legs. All that is touching the floor is his belly and diaper, making him appear to "fly". He does this a lot, but it doesn't cause him to move forward. It's normal, though, for him to try things out like this until he figures it out over time. For the parent, it's simply entertaining to watch!
Enjoy your little five-month-old today. Remember, you have time with your little one now, and that is a precious gift. Take in the moment.
